Site information

Privacy

This notice describes the current HipWiki application. It replaces the old wiki’s descriptions of features and services.

Reading and search

You can read published articles without an account. Search terms are sent to the site in the page URL to return matching published titles and aliases. HipWiki currently includes no advertising or audience analytics code and sets no reader tracking cookies.

Editor accounts

Editing is restricted to invited accounts. Firebase Authentication handles editor sign-in. A necessary HttpOnly session cookie keeps an editor signed in for up to eight hours; signing out clears it. Editorial records include account identifiers, saved revisions, source notes, review decisions and publication history. Those working records are private.

External links and corrections

Following a reference or contact link opens another service with its own privacy practices. Article media is served by HipWiki; external reference videos are links, not automatically loaded players. If you send a correction, include only information needed to investigate it.

Hosting and operational records

Google Firebase and Google Cloud host the application, editor accounts, database and images. Hosting request logs can contain IP addresses, browser information, requested URLs (including search terms), response status and timing. The configured default operational log retention is 30 days. Google Cloud retains required administration and security audit logs for 400 days. HipWiki’s application error events use fixed messages without submitted content, passwords or session tokens.

Private editorial history and backups are retained to support attribution, corrections and recovery. No audience analytics service is currently enabled. Any later measurement service will be named here before use.
