Vonno, born Jevante Johnson, was an emerging rapper hailing from Chicago, Illinois. Tragically, his life was cut short when he was fatally shot on Friday, July 25, 2014, in the 300 block of 157th Street, Calumet City. After the incident, he was rushed to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where he succumbed to his injuries at the young age of 20. As a member of the Stain Gang, affiliated with the Gangster Disciples in Chicago, Vonno's untimely death sent ripples through the community. Just days before his demise, he released a poignant music video titled "I Might Die." On the day of his passing, Vonno, who was a father to a young daughter, tweeted, "I can die any day dats why every night I pray dat da lord don’t take me away from my family!"
Vonno's Death
On the day of the shooting, Vonno arranged to meet Jamal Hoare, 22, from Dolton, and Jacob Wilson, 19, for a drug deal valued at $275. The meeting took a fatal turn when Vonno entered their vehicle and attempted to rob them. In response, a passenger seated next to Vonno in the back pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, resulting in Vonno's death. Hoare and Wilson were subsequently charged with Vonno's murder, while authorities continue to search for a third suspect believed to be the shooter.
The investigation revealed that Hoare and Wilson's identification was facilitated by a critical clue: one of them sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the failed robbery attempt. This individual left a shoe in the vehicle and showed up at the hospital wearing only one shoe, prompting hospital staff to alert law enforcement, which eventually led to the identification and arrest of Hoare and Wilson.
Authorities disclosed that Vonno was involved with a group notorious for orchestrating fake drug deals for the purpose of robbing unsuspecting clients. This group, known as Stain Gang, derived its name from the slang term 'Hit a Stain,' reflecting their illicit activities.
