Yarmel Williams, better known as 051 Melly, was a prominent figure in Chicago's street gang culture. Originally affiliated with the Black Disciples gang, he later became a significant member of the 051 Young Money organization. Within Chicago's gang communities, Melly earned a reputation as one of 051 Young Money's most notorious shooters, allegedly responsible for multiple homicides. In 2018, Melly survived a shooting incident that claimed the life of his associate MUBU Krump.
Conflict with THF 46 A particularly notable incident in Melly's criminal career involved his confrontation with Bayzoo, a high-ranking member of THF 46, a Black Disciple set and one of 051 Young Money's principal adversaries. During a livestreamed video interaction, Melly issued an unambiguous threat to Bayzoo, stating that if homicide were legal, he would desecrate his corpse after killing him. This public exchange exemplified the intense animosity between these rival factions operating in Chicago's South Side neighborhoods.
Homicide at Memorial Gathering Melly met his demise while attending a commemorative event in Jaro City territory. The gathering was held in honor of a deceased STLEBT member known as CantGetRight (CGR). A Jaro City member named Travis captured footage of the shooting on video. The circumstances surrounding Melly's death generated significant speculation within the community, as there was no immediate retaliation against his assailant during the event. This peculiar detail fueled theories that Melly had been betrayed by supposed allies.
Subsequently, the Chicago Police Department identified a suspect in the homicide investigation – Nate, a member of the Tyquan World (TW) gang. Though authorities did not publicly disclose their evidence or reasoning for naming him as a suspect.
Approximately three weeks following Melly's death, Travis, the individual who recorded the fatal shooting, was himself murdered while broadcasting on Facebook Live with his sister. Initial assumptions suggested this was retribution from 051 Young Money members, but further information revealed his death stemmed from an unrelated personal dispute.
