Lil Jojo (Chicago Rap Artist)

Lil Jojo was born ‘Joseph Coleman’ on April 6, 1994. He was a rising rap artist from Chicago, Illinois, who tragically lost his life in a drive-by shooting on September 4th, 2012.

Lil Jojo’s Music Career


Lil Jojo was an emerging talent hailing from the south side of Chicago, known for his popular YouTube videos that showcased his musical prowess. He was affiliated with the notorious criminal gang 'Gangster Disciples' and linked to the '069 Bricksquad,' a faction of the Gangster Disciples. His music often included diss tracks targeting the 'Black Disciples' gang, specifically the Lamron set, which included fellow rapper Chief Keef, with whom he had an ongoing rivalry.

Lil Jojo’s Death


On September 4th, 2012, Lil Jojo was fatally shot while riding a friend's bicycle. Eyewitnesses reported that a man in a Ford Taurus fired multiple shots, causing Lil Jojo to fall and die at the scene. Although police recovered a weapon on him, he hadn't fired as he was hit from behind. Just moments before the attack, Lil Jojo had tweeted his location, leading investigators to suspect a targeted hit. Speculations about his death abound, with many pointing to his feud with Chief Keef and the Black Disciples as potential motives. His songs like 'BDK (3Hunnak)' and 'I Got Dat Sack' openly challenged the Black Disciples, making enemies within their ranks.

Lil Jojo’s Legacy


Lil Jojo's untimely death cast a spotlight on the rampant violence in Chicago. In the aftermath, Chief Keef controversially tweeted about Jojo's demise before claiming his account was hacked. The tragedy didn't end there; on December 25, 2012, a close friend of Jojo's was killed merely for wearing a sweatshirt bearing his name. Additionally, a Black Disciples member was slain on September 17, 2012, believed by many to be retribution for Jojo's murder. Following his passing, a mixtape entitled 'Jojo World' was released, featuring hits like 'BDK' and 'I Got Dat Sack.' As a homage to Lil Jojo, friends and associates began referring to their group as 'JoJo World.'
